Similar to our agreement earlier in the year, therapists can initiate virtual care on claims where the therapist deems it beneficial in rehabilitation and recovery. The current Category limits remain in place and all virtual treatment reduces the visit limits. Each treatment will need to be marked “Virtual” on invoicing. A virtual treatment will be invoiced the same as a Subsequent visit. Please note that all virtual treatment will be invoiced as a Subsequent visit including prior Category 3 approvals.

As per the email sent to membership earlier today, the MATA is pleased to communicate to members that we have received clarification on the new restrictions and how the Athletic Therapy profession fits within them.

Certified Athletic Therapists are able to continue to treat patients during the Critical level (red) period of the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System.

MATA is pleased to offer three opportunities for our members to complete the Basic Life Support course.  All courses will take place at Sport Manitoba (145 Pacific Ave) and run from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

The province of Manitoba has released the #RESTARTMB Pandemic Response System. The report is intended to help people understand the current level of risk and the public health guidance that must be followed. The Pandemic Response System is four colour-coded levels with easily identifiable symbols.  They can be applied at a provincial level or an even more focused regional, community, sector or facility level, if required.

The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) is committed to doing our part to help reduce the spread of COVID 19.

At this time, Manitoba's injured workers may be concerned about obtaining initial treatments or continuing their approved treatments for their workplace injuries.

The MATA Board of Directors is asking members to complete a short survey regarding various topics affecting membership and the profession at this time.  

As you know, Manitoba is currently in Phase 4 of the Restoring Safe Services Plan.

Please be reminded that the lifting of travel restrictions and self-isolation for travellers has not proceed and has been deferred at this time

The 2020-21 recommended rate of services, as voted on at the 2020 MATA AGM is as follows:

April 17, 2020 Update 

The MATA recognizes that these are unprecedented and difficult times for our members.  As a result, the Board has already extended the deadline for membership renewal to Monday, April 20th at 11:59PM.  The Board, with approval from the CATA, has agreed to now also offer the option of two equal payment instalments for certified therapists.  Certification candidates do not qualify for this option.

All MATA members should review this email prior to the start of the Province of Manitoba's 'Restoring Services (Phase One)' start date of Monday, May 4th.

Requirements to join MATA for Certification Candidates and Certified Athletic Therapists. 

The Certified Athletic Therapist will refer to the appropriate health care providers when the following situations arise.

In order to bill for injury care-related services / treatments, the Certified Athletic Therapist must ensure that the services / treatments are:

All Athletic Therapists desiring to practice as a Certified Athletic Therapist within the Province of Manitoba must be registered with the Registrar of the Manitoba Athletic Therapists’ Association (M.A.T.A.). The application for registration must be submitted in written form, to the M.A.T.A. Registrar.

The current membership fee for a Certified Athletic Therapist is $325.00 (250.00 membership + 75.00 licensure levy), Leave of Absence $150.00 (125.00 membership + 75.00 licensure levy). The Certification Candidates fee is $190.00 (165.00 + 25.00 levy).
