My name is Megan Pomarensky and I’m a Certified Athletic Therapist. I’m an AT at Empowerment Rehabilitation and Training in Winnipeg.
This photo is of a patient I’m treating in the clinic. This patient is a 31-year-old active male who plays soccer and hockey on the weekends and is in the gym for general health a couple times per week.
He was experiencing some pinching in the front of the hip with sitting for extended periods of time at work, and with running and weight lifting. After an assessment, I determined that he required an improved range of motion and muscular control of the hip joint.
In this photo, I am taking the patient through an active range of motion drill called a bear crawl. This type of exercise is great for strengthening the hip and core in a dynamic way, not like a static hold such as a plank. The goal is to have a stable trunk while the hips, and limbs in general, produce force.
The treatment represents rehabilitation in the AT spectrum of care as we helped reduce the symptoms while also progressing him back to the activities he likes to perform. It also represents injury prevention because we are maximizing the capacity of the joints and body to work efficiently and effectively.
